By staying in the center lanes truckers are actually increasing your chances of a safe commute by taking themselves out of the path of accelerating and slowing traffic that intermingles at entry/exit points.

This is explicitly why I mentioned, quite on purpose, on ramps. But on I-65 in Kentucky there are many miles between on-ramps and fairly light traffic. And to be frank, it’s easy to see the on-ramp from a distance and they are quite often unoccupied.

I expect them to move over (to the center lane) when approaching an on-ramp.

BTW they are not allowed in the far left lane, at all. I see a lot of them pulled over by the state police a short distance after the rule begins, just south of Louisville, southbound. Roughly one every other day on my commute.

It’s still safer for a truck to stay in the center lanes even if there are miles between ramps.
When I was still driving I stuck to the center lanes whenever possible. It gives the cars more room to jockey for position.

You want to see potential mayhem try Chicago or other places where trucks are restricted to the right lanes.
It’s a wonder more people aren’t killed in crashes with trucks in those places.
I know there are many more close calls.
