The speed with which this charge arose after Grudinin’s candidacy was announced makes it pretty clear they had the goods on him in advance, no? If so, why hadn’t he already been charged?
Since Grudinin was going to lose massively, an introductory level egoist would want to make it seem that he had won a real contest while secretly cheating (Hillary Clinton comes to mind). Putin is advertising that he is above all that pretending stuff.
