Anyone, I found a box of 22lr “Stingers” at a yard sale about 3 yrs ago. Can they be fired in a 22 handgun? Are they some kind of a super power round?

Yes they can but they really need a rifle to develop full velocity.

They can be fired in any weapon chambered for .22 LR (Long Rifle), which includes handguns, although they’re best in a bolt-action or single-shot rifle. Advertised velocity for the .22 LR Stinger is about 1,640 fps, whereas standard velocity .22 LR ammo generally ranges from 1,000 to 1,100 fps, so Stingers are fairly hot. I shoot CCI Stinger and CCI Mini-Mag ammo in a Sig Mosquito - a training gun that I use for women and kids - and it prefers higher-velocity ammo (although the Mini-Mags cycle and perform better). I wouldn’t hesitate to shoot Stingers in any of my wheel guns.
