That’s OK. What shoulda been.
Carpenters too. Yup. 11x in the year-end 100. J5 only 2x!
3x Doobie Bros in the top 100/year. Boston only once.
Sometimes it’s shocking to pick a year or period of time that nostalgia says was a kind of golden era for music. Then check out what were actually the most popular songs then. Most music in any time period is mediocre or just plain bad.
Don’t forget the putrid and crapnificent “Ben”
Open your mind. Let all the music flow. Being popular doesn’t make it bad. Neither does being “nice”. I’d like to go back to the days of “nice” music! Times sure were better.
I’m very eclectic. I love all kinds and don’t look down my nose at much music. Generally don’t like rap and heavy metal but often the best still shines for me.
I loved that.
Never mind if it was supposed to be a rat.
Great memories from our jukebox. My sister must’ve bought it (I was too young).
I had to play it on the radio station I worked at in college and just detested it. Almost as much as Bobby Goldsboro’s “Honey”.
But I was thinking the other day, the 70s was a good decade for the Candians. These guys, Five Man Electrical Band, had a couple of big hits and every one of them could sing lead:

The Stampeders out of Calgary had “Sweet City Woman”, Edward Bear “The Last Song”, and of course there was Gordo and that Guess Who outfit...
The seventies also gave us New Wave, punk, and sadly even Rap.

If a youtube comment is to be the believed it's either the first or only song to ever be #1 at the same time on the soul/r&b, pop, and country charts at the same time.

I’m in...just because I liked 70s music
I’m in! Warning - the 1970’s Top 40 had a lot of songs about picking up under-age girls in chevy vans.
My favorite year was 1977- the Clash, Talking Heads, Ramones, Bob Marley, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, David Bowie were all in top form.
“I’m not in Love” by 10 cc is still my favorite beach song on a hot day. The fact they did those sounds in the analog days is amazing.

Looking at Wiki, uhuh.
Love it, but didn’t reach #1 on the pop charts anyway.
I’ve watched it twice, thanks!
“Big boys don’t cry...” - recorded by the receptionist.
That comment made me wonder if it was mistaken for Richie’s “Lady” sung by Kenny Rogers. But Lady was not listed for R/B/black, yet did indeed do #1 for country and pop.
I’ll give you Bowie.
