“Almost heaven, West Virginia.
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River.
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze.”

I was in the Air Force and going through a divorce in the mid-70s. I used to listen to John Denver driving the dirt roads in the high desert of New Mexico in my pickup, trying to take my mind off of my marriage problems.
Many of his songs used to bring tears to my eyes because of the tough times I was going through with my wife.
"Country Roads" was one of those songs. Thanks for the memory.

They play Country Roads after a WVU victory, needless to say people in WV are pretty fond of it.

Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert prolly deserve the most credit for composing Country Roads. Friends of Denver’s.
