It's a little before my time, but I seem to recall Democrats pointing with pride to Harry Truman for his "colorful" and "direct" language.
"Give 'em hell, Harry!"
I guess it all depends on what party affiliation you have.
BTW, did you ever have to explain to your kids what all the fuss was over cigars and a blue dress?
