I lived in Seattle for 46 years. Two weeks before the 2008 election I purchased my new house and 12 acres (now 32) in central, rural KY. My house payment is less than my car payment - on a 15 year loan. :)

And my annual real estate taxes are about the same as one car payment. Further, they will be cut in half once we turn 65. :)

Oh, and though this is an income tax state, it doesn’t apply to SS.

Lastly, it is absolutely beautiful here.

i.e. I moved here on purpose. :)
