I live in coyote country times 10 and have never heard of any attacking humans. Never. One case in Canada doesn’t add up to beans imho. That said they are a nuisance at best and should be shot on sight.

I had a pair approach aggressively (no vocalization) until I drew the pistol then they peeled off and into the brush. So I’m guessing that it depends on how hungry they are.

Not sure that the young lady was in fact in danger. They often howl around dusk around here.

Are you out west? Western coyotes are 20 to 35 lbs; Eastern Coyotes are actually wolf-coyote hybrids and run 40 to 60 lbs (here in PA). Having spent time around both variants, western coyotes are harmless, but the eastern variety are much sneakier and aggressive (I have only seen them visually when stalking with dogs and night vision, but they will attack pets and livestock with little fear even right at house at night— hit fast and run off). I could definitely see them attacking humans.
