Mark Hamill hated what they did to their characters in vii and viii. I can agree with him strongly on this.

Her comments remind me of the pro football player who said if the fans didn’t like the protest, they should stay away.

Thanks for the Sargon link. Very thorough analysis and evisceration of a once glorious and now execrable franchise.

Some movies are works of art (e.g. Solaris by Tarkovsky). Some movies are just pop pablum (e.g. Dude Where's My Car)

I guess if something that aspired to be a work of art such as the Godfather series degenerated the way that Star Wars has, then that would be something of a tragedy.

But on its best days Star Wars movies are much closer to Bride of Chucky than 2001: A Space Odyssey.

So it doesn't really matter if there were dozens of plot holes, pointless story arcs, that Rian Johnson flipped the fan boys his middle finger, and that the movie was loaded down with SJW blather.

I guess that's why some Freepers are able to look past all the nonsense and just enjoy the pretty colors, explosions, and other CGI effects.

Star Wars ain't the Mona Lisa. It's just another schlocky Warhol print.

Quite a hefty reply. :)

Keep in mind, Poe had just been demoted, and was “in the doghouse.” His mutiny didn’t improve things. The Resistance fleet assumed there was a hyperspace tracker, but OPSEC would dictate you also treat mission details as if you have a leak among your ranks.

Hyperspace physics in Star Wars canon are highly inconsistent. The Empire uses Interdictor cruisers that create gravity wells to pull ships out of hyperspace. I imagine the use of hyperspace mass as a weapon against planet or Death Star sized objects would fail as the gravity well of that mass would yank the missile out of hyperspace.

Snoke was cut down because he could gauge Ren’s intent, but not divine his target or tool. He assume Ren was resolved on executing Rey and his arrogance didn’t permit him to suspect otherwise.

I did not like Luke’s momentary lapse with Ben either, and it appears Mark Hamill himself is not pleased with it. I also agree that Leia’s scene was weak. I’d have been OK with her latent Force sensitivity keeping her alive in the vacuum of space long enough to be rescued, but the execution on that shot was weaksauce.

I found the overall idea that the Force actively works to maintain the balance and that bloodlines and training are less important to be compelling. Rey matched Ren because the Force had raised her up as a counterpoint to his growing power.

Yes, the diversity police worked overtime with the “good guys.” All of the heroes were either female or people of color (except Holdo).

I also like Rey’s evolution as an actress and her character is becoming genuinely heroic and likeable. Luke managed with a Force Projection what he could never have accomplished in person: A delay of the First Order long enough to save the remainder of the Resistance and give them time to evacuate. I believe Luke will be back as a Force Ghost in Ep 9.

In fairness, I always considered Luke to be a Jedi by process of elimination. He never had the level of training a Republic Jedi would have had, nor did he even (by his own admission) never become a scholar of the ancient Jedi texts - It was stated earlier in the movie that a Force Projection is fatal to the being doing the deed, so Luke knew his Hail Mary would cost him his life. I thought it was his single most memorable act of Force mastery demonstrated in any of the films, and his arc ended in noble sacrifice.

I also think we’ll see Phasma in 9. I doubt she died in that fiery fall.

You make some good points. Maybe it didn’t suck as bad as I first thought. Def agree about Rey as noted in my previous post. Think I’ll have to watch it again - when it comes out on cable.
