The only thing sites care about these days are clicks. They can say whatever they want to make you click. “Unnamed sources” rule the day, and people just make shit up and call it news.
Like banned words. Fake news, again.

And it spreads at the speed of light. Blogger A makes something up just to get hits. Semi-reputable news site B picks the story up, not bothering to vet it.
Then reputable news site C picks the story up, siting site B as the source. This would all actually be funny if the potential for harm wasn’t so great.
There is also a huge rise in old news wrapped in a new title in order to get the little “new” box to appear. This really steams my clams.
