Nothing before the inauguration could generate impeachment proceedings.

I've been hammered in other threads for saying exactly that.

Constitutionally it is a correct statement. In reality this will be a battle of public opinion, not law.

I think that, given what Congressmen and Senators have gotten up to, the chance of impeachment on any grounds is very, very tenuous. For example, it’s been plausibly proposed that Bill Clinton got off due to Newt Gingrich’s vulnerability because of his own affair with a staffer.
