Luther Strange for all his RINOisms, at least would continue to vote for the judiciary. That to me is the most important thing for Trump to get through. If he can completely replace all those liberal judges with conservatives then having Strange might have been worth it. As far as tax bill and anything else, I think they are dead. Last night will embolden the liberal republicans to vote no on the bill. Our best bet is to just keep filling the judiciary with good conservatives and hope that we can keep the Senate next year. We will definitely lose Nevada, but I hope we can win some of those red state Democratic Senators, but with Democratic enthusiasm as high as it is since November, we have got to get Republicans enthusiastic ASAP.
And how much money did Republicans throw at this contest. They did everything they could to throw this race.
Seems like the campaign did pretty well with the situation they were in.
Odd that Bannon is the target; Moore almost won with a huge anchor tied to him.
From McConnell's point of view, small price to pay for sticking it to Bannon and Trump.
Possibly. Certainly on life support. Corker is against it. Collins voted for it in exchange for promises that were promptly broken so I don't see her voting for it. If they hold the vote while Pence is in Israel & Egypt then there's nobody to break the tie.
Well, he needs to be fired from the leadership. His job is to run the majority. To do that he needs to have one. He doesn’t any more.
My larger point is simply that Bannon backed a loser in this race. I’m all for draining the swamp and getting rid of RINOs, but there is no scenario where Bannon’s populist agenda is better off with Doug Jones in the Senate instead of Luther Strange. Bannon needs to be smarter politically than this — LIKE TRUMP WAS.
So they are gloating about beating the guy who got Trump elected who happened to lose an off-year election with a stacked deck against him?
Ok.....
Stop being a whining malcontent and look at the history of this election. Trump backed Strange over several candidates who were much more conservative ... and explained that ELECTABILITY was his biggest reason for this. Steve Bannon and the Alabama GOP backed the wrong candidate here. Pointing out this obvious fact doesn’t make me a “globalist,” and I’m not sure why you insist on these deranged temper tantrums that do nothing to help your cause.
I’ve read enough of your sh!t. I’ve got your number.
We don’t want Establishment candidates. That is how we got here. Banana Republic style meddling got Moore un-elected.
Bannon is fallible. Does that mean I don’t like him? No. He was blown away, too, by the terrible performance by Moore on Hannity. He should have asked Moore to step down at that point. It left us trying to fi d a way to defend a guy who was dating teen gorls as a 30+ year old.
FWIW, I was an early supporter of Trump. I said at the time that appointing a sitting senator to a cabinet position with just a 2 senator lead in the Senate was a huge strategic error. I think that is still evident. I still 100% support Trump.
I didn’t vote for Bannon, so I’m under no compulsion to go to the wall defending bad decisions.
Sure. You don’t even know me, dude.
He had zero fire at that rally. He was disorganized, clumsy, and hard to follow.
He owes us an apology for closing out with a whimper. He’s no Trump.
Here in Ga he was known as Crazy Roy long ago... for good reason.
I thought Bannon was smarter than that.... he usually has good instincts...
All of a sudden, with Moore’s loss of the election the Conservative sources are all accepting that Moore is a proven sexual pervert and predator. Nothing alleged by women that have not pretty openly indulged in forgery has been shown to be true beyond conjecture and accusation and nothing so alleged was illegal at the time of the supposed occurrence of the events. We have lost the war if our side automatically accepts these sorts of baseless accusations on their face. All future elections involving conservatives will be treated the same way until the tactic backfires finally but by then there will be no conservatives in Washington at all. The conservatives are as bad as the Republicans and all fear to anger the Democrats.
Wyo, you are spot on, FR-er's alluded to that when this whole primary goat rodeo started in AL. FWIW, I have noticed a trend with PDJT. He will endorse a horse that works, that has a track record he thinks can get his job done, that will work with him
It might not be much different then when he chose a concrete company to deliver on time and pump up the mix and that it would set properly. He went with tried and true he could rely on, not some new fangled upstart.
He is doing it here in MI with endorsing Schuette for Governor vs our Tea Party guy ( Who is brilliant BTW ) Pat Colbeck, I disagree with him on this, but I will let it unfold and see what happens...
