What they don't take into account is that while you slow to a stop 25 feet away from the car in front of you, three cars from lanes beside you will pull into the space you created. I typically leave a buffer between me and the car in front of me...as a defense tactic against carjacking (I also try to stop in either the far left or far right lane for the same reason). Lived in So Cal when that was in style several years ago -- don't know if it's still the rage there that it was in the early 90s or not.

leery of having anyone moving beside me at
the same speed I was traveling. I saw a
bumper sticker in those days that said,
“Honk if you’re reloading.”
