Need a house? Just click your mouse three times and say “There’s no place like home.”

A building company is now selling actual houses on Amazon that anyone can purchase online–but they are not your average humble abode.

The tiny houses, sold by MODS International, are fashioned out of shipping containers and are each 320 square feet, according to Apartment Therapy. Despite their shortcomings, the homes seem rather luxurious inside.....

That's about what we paid for a brand-new doublewide 3/2 1,475 square foot home a year ago.

Amazon selling homes, so what, Sears was doing that 100 years ago.

Beat me to it.

If Sears had had some imagination, they could have done what Amazon did.

The same can be said for Blockbuster video.

For that price one could buy a nice used trailer and refurbish it.

That is really expensive for a cabin without even a real kitchen-especially since those shipping containers are readily available for as little as $2000.00, and not that difficult to outfit for a lot less than $36K-I’ve researched that for my own purposes. I don’t intend to spend that much on the 1000-1200 sq ft cabin I plan to build soon, partially from materials salvaged from my jobsites, bartered stuff, on sale materials, etc-the contractor I work for is salvaging with me for his cabin, too-we now have all the interior framing materials, windows, solid surface kitchen counters-and even woodstoves to heat two cabins...

Blame Sears Retail Stores for the downfall of the Sears Catalog. They viewed the catalog division of the company as unwanted competition and did everything they could to eliminate it! They succeeded in 1993 and the catalog was no longer part of Sears. Huge mistake.

My neighbor and friend just sold me her refurbished 10 year old 2 Br mobile for less than $2000-and I don’t have to move it from her property till I buy some acreage-I’m going to live in it while I build a cabin...

Top customer reviews
1.0 out of 5 starsThis company has had a LOT of lawsuits filed against them—read comments below for links
ByMatt Sweeneyon October 14, 2017
Google WI CCAP, and go to the website. It will give you access to Wisconsin state court records. Search for MODS International. Lots of lawsuits, lots of judgements against the company. Many suits from the state of Wisconsin.

Do you want to buy a HOUSE from these guys? Especially if you live out of state? Look at the way he’s responded to this review—is that someone you want to do business with? Read the comments from people who’ve actually bought from him and are now suing. This is your house, people. There are a LOT of companies that make homes like this. Find one that is reputable.

EDIT: lowered rating from two stars to one based on my recent personal experience with the owner’s unprofessional behavior.

EDIT: Links to other online reviews may have been deleted. Sometimes they’re there, sometimes they aren’t. It’s weird. Please check Google reviews, as well as those on Glassdoor and Repdigger for MODS International.

1.0 out of 5 starsDont go to mods
ByNabon October 21, 2017
I use to work for mods international please go somewhere else. The owner is a crook and the containers he has for sale on here are 5 + years old and have had mold in them.

And here are the ones they sold: http://www.arts-crafts.com/archive/sears/

I’m guessing that most of the Sears homes were larger than 320 sq.ft.

“Amazon selling homes, so what, Sears was doing that 100 years ago.”

That industry became big in the 1870s when rail went across the US. A substantial number of Victorian homes still standing were made in North Carolina and shipped by rail to some small or large town. You can tell by the gussets in the frame, among other tells.

The ones I have seen (1870s) are still very solid.

Just click your mouse three times and say “There’s no place like home.”

When I lived in Japan in the late 1960s, our toilet was a Toto (common in the US now, but back then it was a Japan-only brand), and as is common in Japanese homes, there was a pair of red slippers that were only worn while using the toilet. I would from time to time close my eyes, click the slippers three times, and recite, "There's no place like home." When I opened my eyes, I was still in Japan. I bow to no one in my American-ness, but when I have been in Japan all the times since, it is as if I were in my other home.

Not that any of this has anything to do with the article...

It’s a trailer. Without wheels.

Buy a Conex box for about $1500, fur it out, and move in. Or buy whatever you want, there’s nothing new here:

I'd love to own a 320 square foot condo/coop on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.I'd only stay there occasionally and while there wouldn't be spending much time in the apartment itself...just sleeping there.
