The travesty you speak of was the last straw for me and my support for the RNC. Since then I have not donated a dime to them, and what those slimy RINOs have done to undermine the President has only hardened my resolve to NEVER AGAIN contribute to any Republican organization.
Yeah, it was truly a disgusting spectacle. Unfortunately, in TN, the Dubya White House and the execrable Tokyo Rove were behind recruiting liberal RINO Establishment types for both our Senate seats (Lamar! in 2002 and Corker in 2006). The Conservatives wanted well-respected (but cash poor) Congressman Ed Bryant for the ‘02 opening, but couldn’t overcome the flood of money for Lamar! (who lied back in 1996 he’d never run for office again), and they sandbagged Bryant again in 2006.
I would be utterly floored if Bryant defied Barbour and appointed McDaniel. Barbour may insist on being appointed when Cochran croaks.
Yup! There is way too much staff in DC! There’s a lot to do to fix it, but one of the main things would be to limit the staff - each Congresscritter should be getting paid the average for the district they represent, and get maybe 3-5x that amount to spend on staff. Anything more than that comes out of their own pocket!

I remember Mississippi. I was so mad at Boss Hogg Barbour and the MS Republican Party. McDaniel won the majority of “Republican” votes in both the primary and runoff but still lost because of Boss Hogg’s slimy and disgusting behavior.
How many candidates do we run for the Senate who are already in their 60s and 70s? With 6-year terms and the power of incumbency, it’s no wonder we end up with geezers in their 80s and 90s.
I mean, Romney is already 70 and talking about running for the senate in Utah. It really is just a vanity position for too many pols.
So they don’t have a vice chairman who can run the committee? Why not?
