Just to expand a bit...I am of the opinion that it's not a coincidence that Christianity still lives in what I'm inclined to think of as "Eastern Europe".Having recent memories of being oppressed by the atheist USSR strengthened their faith and made it a rallying point against the oppression...as evidenced,particularly,in Poland with John Paul II.
Just thinking out loud...
That was the one silver lining from the Iron Curtain, it kept the countries behind it, for the most part homogenous, and free from the massive influx of Turd Worlders, that Western Europe faced.
