Film Review: ‘My Little Pony: The Movie’
variety.com ^ | October 5, 2017 | Amy Nicholson

The overwhelmingly cute “My Little Pony: The Movie” (the font squeezes hearts into each “O” and “P,” and the spiders have googly pink eyes) is less a film than a feature-length “very special episode” of the TV hit “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic,” a kiddie cartoon that’s spent seven seasons insisting that everyone needs a hug (villains, too). Audiences who haven’t followed the glitter-bomb adventures of bossy bookworm Twilight Sparkle, glamorous Rarity, hyperactive Pinkie Pie, introverted Fluttershy, speed demon Rainbow Dash and country girl Applejack don’t get a helping hoof in understanding the land of Equestria — and audiences saddled with cynicism will have to shake it off by the first chords of the Go-Go’s “We Got the Beat.”

I saw the trailer when I took the boys to see “Lego Ninjago” a couple of weeks ago. I decided against mentioning it to my 5-year-old daughter.

I know a gal that collects MLPs . She has an entire room dedicated for their display . Most of them are still in the box . Every year she attends the international MLP convention . She takes it very seriously !

He may be equating bronies with furries. Neither are my thang but I don’t doubt there may be overlap.

Now I must brush my teeth.

I recall Laura Ingraham’s name for John Edwards: “Silky Pony.”

I’m not a furry, but I have friends who are. There is a lot of overlap between the groups.

I’ll second that, as I watched the first couple of episodes (it’s on Netflix) to see what the buzz was about since I’d read about the brony phenomenon. Turns out I like watching it with my kids.

Surprisingly, it was actually good. Of course, the intended audience is for girls so it can come across as a bit saccharine, but compared to many other shows on TV it’s actually very well written and voice acted, with the animation being far more fluid and colorful than many contemporary cartoons.

Usually kids cartoons are mainly designed to push toy lines and be relatively simple, not holding up at all over time, but the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic show is an exception. Sure it’s pushing the toys, but it’s written with some subtle jokes that adults would appreciate. To my knowledge there isn’t anything morally objectionable about it and it doesn’t seem to push a left-wing agenda.

It’s one of the few things that I can enjoy watching with my kids.

Is it safe to take your child to any movie? Kids movies today all have some skillfully hiden LGTB message that plants that seed that same sex romantic relationships are normal....this is how the milleneal generation has become so pro LGTB and anti Christian. Started with those shows on Nickoloadian and Disney channel in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.

Ahem, can’t speak for the movie, but after watching every single episode of this show with my daughter over the years, this isn’t Disney or Nick SJW crap... no pushing of social agendas or poofer propaganda.

It’s honestly one of the most wholesome shows on TV, which shocked the heck out of me when I first started watching it with my daughter... considering this is literally a tv show made by a toy company. Yes there are toys and they tie in but they really don’t push them with the storylines and they aren’t pushing agendas beyond basically being a decent person or friend.

Unless the movie deviates from 7 years of tv shows it’s not a SJW/gay propaganda platform.

I will be seeing this. My daughter adores My Little Ponies. At least my beloved Liev Schreiber is in it....

Agreed. It’s a good show. If only Queen Chrysalis wasn’t hiding in my closet... my daughter is afraid to be in there when it’s dark.

About four years ago there was a school shooting at a campus in Seattle (SPU). One student dead, several wounded. A heroic student - Jon Meis - rushed the shooter while he was reloading, sprayed him with pepper spray and then tackled him.

On his facebook page, Meis had “likes” to various weapon things, martial arts things, and a couple of “My Little Pony” sites!

My movie review based on the title alone.

“My Little Pony”

A sad story of a disadvantaged pony that couldn’t live up to the expectations and bullying from the other ponies. He was “My Little Pony”, full of heart and desire. Knowing and accepting that he’d never be a horse, it was the battle to belong among the other Ponies and My Little Ponies journey for respect and the ultimate slaughter of My Little Ponies adversaries that make this story a true and touching ideal.
