Thank you, that's very kind of you. My youngest brother is a sous chef in NYC and was teaching a class of mentally challenged young adults the basics of banquet preparation that summer in a partnership with the World Trade Center/Port Authority and the New York State Department of Education. Upon their graduation a number of his students got jobs in The Sky Box Cafe in The South Tower. The woman who was head of the education program was also the manager of the cafe and wanted my brother to come work for her in The South Tower as the cafe’s manager but my brother had a good paying, high end job in s swanky restaurant uptown. 11 of his students and the woman who was the manager were killed that day. To this day my brother tells me sometimes, at night in his dreams he sees them. “They're calling to me ‘’ he says. “And I can't help them’’.
My dad was a retired construction executive who had a
friend, a retired architect who was meeting with his broker that morning in Windows On The World in The North Tower to talk about setting up a scholarship program for disadvantaged inner city kids. When the plane hit he knew he was done for. he called his wife to say good bye and he went out the window. And to round out this sorrow of personal 9/11 horror my oldest brothers birthday is Sept. 11.

Please don't feel bad about it. It was his birthday well before it was a day of horror for all of us. There are other people here who have birthdays (and anniversaries) on that date. Try to remember the good that day represents to you and keep it separate from the bad.
