Not every journalist or researcher has to get paid by working for some corporate owned media
Bloggers are independent contractors , citizen journalists who earn money from advertisers or paid subscriptions by publishing their work and that of other citizen-journalist and getting it read

Surf the media and pick up your own sources of news and opinion
Or write your own op ed and post it for free
