I agree with the writer that destruction of the monuments is wrong, but maybe blacks would be better off if they forgot their ancestors were slaves.

“southern vandals”?

“southern whites”?

“Sothern men...led the country...to civil war”?

The author is an idiot.

They’ve always forgot it was their own African tribesmen who sold their ancestors into slavery. They’ve also hidden the fact that blacks in the US also owned them. There have been slaves and owners of all races throughout history but it’s only these who are complaining.

As the great grandson of a Yankee soldier I've never really understood why southern whites would want to honor such men.

For the same reason Northern whites would want to honor leaders of the Yankee cause represented by statues in the cities and towns of Vermont and other Northern states.

Rather than tear that statues down, I propse adding informational placards with:

1. Political Party of Confederate portrayed in Statue

2. Political party that created the statue, usually circa 1900-1940.

3. Political party of lunatics who now want to destroy statue.

Three of a kind.

I disagree. They should be proud of accomplishing progress in spite of the situation of their ancestors. My grandfather was the illiterate son of an illiterate Irish immigrant. But among his great-grandchildren are women and men with masters' and doctorate degrees and great jobs. Our family worked our way up. I'm proud of both ends of the struggle. My grandfather started working at age 7 when his father died, and retired at age 65 with a write-up in a large city newspaper. That's the America we want to Make Great Again for anyone who doesn't expect a handout on a platter, but is willing to work and achieve.
