I am 74. In the late forties and on into the late fifties polio was a scourge. Everyone got a smallpox vaccination. Then polio went away along with the 'iron lung' breathing machines.

Do you know of any modern outbreaks of smallpox in the U.S. I don't!

When I was in basic training we were always being inoculated for something. The only mishap was a guy from muscle beach in California. A real specimen. He was discharged because he reacted to the plague shot and went nuts for a short time. So, reactions to anything can happen at any time but one needs to look at the overall picture.

To my mind they haven't been able to accurately pinpoint the cause autism to inoculations, but it certainly does make them a convenient tipping-boy.
