Obamas great-great-great-great-grandfather, George Washington Overall... owned two slaves in Kentucky: a 15-year-old girl and a 25-year-old man... Obamas great-great-great-great-great-grandmother, Mary Duvall, also owned a pair of slaves listed in an 1850 census record. They were a 60-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman. In fact, the Duvalls were a wealthy family whose members were descended from a major landowner, Maureen Duvall, whose estate owned at least 18 slaves in the 17th century.
To be precise: Anthony Johnson, who happened to be black, was the plaintiff in the court case that was the first in the Colonies to recognize lifetime servitude for someone who committed no crime.
But the life story of Anthony Johnson is extremely interesting even beyond that fact.
This was not uncommon. Booker T. Washington (an outstanding American) was owned by a black at one time. Slavery as an institution is very much ignorantly misunderstood by the left from the history to present day slavery. The Democrats and Islam have harbored the most slaves and condoned its practice.
Democrats owned slaves, left the union primarily to keep the right, lost the war to keep them, fought like hell to destroy freed slaves and put up monuments honoring the leaders of Confederacy.
Islam has had slavery as an attribute (as they see it) for thousands of years. They still have them and the left sees nothing.
