Perhaps some of the more honest people at Berkeley finally woke up and realized what the end result of all this denial of conservative speakers free speech rights would be. The death of one person’s free speech may well presage the loss of your own freedom of speech.

They remembered what Martin Niemöller said:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
