Need some details. What is a PT job? How old are you and what sex? Are you locked into a retirement plan or benefits you can’t do without? What are your credentials? What other opportunities are open to you? Are you a veteran? What are your long-term goals? Can you move? Are you stuck in the area because of divorce/children?
I think many jobs are like being a citizen of the Soviet Union. You have to be very careful who you talk to and what you say. I got reported by a black employee for, I think the phrase was, “politically incorrect speech.” Seriously. The HR manager came to my cube and sat down. Leaning forward so nobody would overhear he told me about it and suggested I never speak to the guy again. What bothered me is, he felt it necessary to warn me; not the guy who reported me. This was at General Dynamics.
Basically, any education job, defense job or tech company job has the potential to get a conservative into trouble or have his career sidelined for politically incorrect views. I am friends with a former fifth grade teacher. He told me the school warned them not to have a Facebook account because if somebody reported something they said as offensive the school would probably have to fire them.
Fortunately, I think the pendulum will swing back the other way, but it won’t swing as far as it was in, say, the sixties.
I worked at the U of SC early in the time of the wun.
The MIS department I was in was a daily exercise in “good think” and “good speak”. I said something derogatory about the kenyan and I might as well be in the stocks like they did in the olden days.
Life went from so-so to downright miserable.
The PHB-ette over me would have made a great Soviet era political officer. She had the looks for it too. Think of the 80s Wendy’s commercial of the beauty contest.
Those ladies were lookers compared to what I dealt with. Ugly inside and out.
I’m so glad to be free of that place. I’d never go back there either working or taking a class.
