I saw them surround cars in Portland, Oregon on the day after the election. They were in the center of the city where there should have been plenty of police but the leftist thugs were allowed to obstruct people from going where they needed to go. The driver closest to the camera was a woman. She was stuck in her car and could not move—she could do nothing. Suppose that she had a Trump sticker on her car? What would have happened them?
So your solution is to deny peaceful assembly pre-emptively, based strictly on your own hindsight. Screw you.
The news made the mistake of showing the Guardsmen firing. It showed then before they fired, before they fired, there were gunshots. Then the Guardsmen returned fire. I never saw that film clip again.
If you have a reasonable expectation that your people, I don't give a damn what their view may be, cannot hold a rally without being killed, don't have the rally.

People need to suck it up and let people march that they disagree with. It’s best to just ignore them anyway and have their little circle jerk with nobody watching, it would make them look even more silly.
The police and the city or university are at fault at these rallies for not keeping things under control and keeping opposite views separated. It should be safe for both Antifa and the Klan to demonstrate. if not, don’t issue a permit to the second applicant and arrest the side that has none. But letting people face off in the street and yell and throw things at each other is a formula for tragedy.
The Charlottesville police chief and mayor let the Blac Bloc and communists run around assaulting people (how many arrests BEFORE speed racer powered up the Mach 5?), then cry crocodile tears when commies go flying through the air like bowling pins.

Why doesn’t Rahm go after the people who are shooting other people in the streets of Chicago? Have you ever heard of one arrest for one of the hundreds of murders that have taken place in Chicago?
