The Nazis, White Nationalists and the Klan have the right to have a rally, but they have the responsibility not to murder people during their rally.
Right to assemble? In the future, I would demand a performance bond from local police departments.
What gets my attention, is with all those photos of armed civilians, nobody got shot. A car. Some jackass 20 year old kid from out of state with a car. Narrow street, tall buildings. Jesus. Talk about a channelized kill zone.

I originally thought that the counter protesters did not have a permit, but I have since read otherwise.
I am not sure how such permits would have been obtained, as it looks to me as if there were several different groups of people making up the counter protest.
If permits were obtained, I would like to know what location was given. Because as far as I can tell the counter protestors were in the streets, while the Unite the Right group were in a city park.

Honestly, I think the entire situation should be decided by the people who live there. Why should the county, state, or federal government, or some civic group be able to tell a city what statue can stay or go.
Let the people of that city decide, if they don’t want the statue there they can donate it to a city that does.
If we can dictate what goes where, then I want the Washington monument removed. Or how about the MLK statue, the Vietnam wall, or the Lincoln memorial.

I agree 100%. No one should have to get a permit to express their freedom of speech.

Don’t forget the big debacle in Chicago. Rahm Emanuel let hundreds of leftists get into the Trump rally while there were few police. This too was a set up which ended in violence. Chicago, San Jose, Charlottesville etc. etc.
