I’m willing to bet taxpayer money was paid to “maintain the pumps”. Wonder where it really went?

Gee, incompetence in NO city gubermint. Next you’ll try to tell me there’s gambling going on at Rick’s Place in Casablanca.

When I had the great displeasure to live in the Baton Rouge area, every time there was any kind of severe weather warning early in the morning, radio and TV stations passed along an order for non-essential state “workers” to stay home (with pay, of course). That amounted to about 80% of the total staff.

Miraculously, during the annual budget crunch, 80% of state workers were suddenly classified as essential so they could continue to get paid when there was no funding available.

Perhaps the money for the pumps went to a “higher” priority — Taking down the politically incorrect statue of Robert E. Lee and other southerners related to the CSA.

Don't all the politicians in New Orleans keep their money in the refrigerator?
