The headline in the New York Times read:
New York Times Editorial Writer Must Testify in Sarah Palin Lawsuit
What did I tell you? "She has a case and she and her lawyers can have a field day in discovery and deposition."
I'm not alone is recognizing how devastating her lawsuit is. She has good lawyers (the team that destroyed Gawker Media), a good case, and all the time in the world.
Lawyer John Hinderacker at Power Line is boasting about his prescience in the case.
He knows the law.
I know editorial writing. Did it for 27 years. The writer decided to deflect the very serious political assassination attempt on a group of Republican congressmen by a Democratic Party activist -- one of the many resistance marchers that have hung around Washington since the inauguration.
So the writer tried moral equivalence -- repeating a provable lie about Sarah Palin that was debunked six years ago.
Palin read the editorial. She lawyered up. She sued.

Where did she file?
Don't know. Not being a lawyer I know nothing about such things but I would suspect that she'd be required to file either in New York or in the state which she claims to be her legal residence (Alaska?).
Maybe a lawyer can weigh in on this.
LOL!!
She could have Diamond and Silk and Joe Dan Gorman on her editorial staff.
The Times filed a motion last month seeking to dismiss the case, and the judge, Jed S. Rakoff of Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York, said the testimony was necessary to help him determine whether to grant that motion.
Nine years later, and Governor Palin is still amazingly beautiful.
I din’t want to read the article. It was a dumb blog and I try to stay away from those unless it’s one I know and trust. I come here to skim the news and if I have a question, I ask. If I want to see the details, I click the link. Sorry to disturb you. Next time, please ignore instead of answering my question.
My British friend tells me it was filed in New York. That would be the most likely place where jurisdiction lies, particularly if the individual defendants live in the Southern District of NY. Jurisdiction might be possible in other areas, as the Times is a national publication and its libel was directed at an Alaskan citizen. However, it would be subject to a motion to transfer venue that would probably be granted, so they just started in NY and are taking their chances.
As a result, the jury pool is a big concern. Palin’s lawyers should consider a motion that the forum be transferred to a venue that would be less biased against the plaintiff. They could point out that 80 percent or whatever of the population of NYC read the Times and might favor it over an out of stater. Could try to move it upstate. Since most judges in that district are full blown libs, the motion would likely fail, but would create a good issue for appeal.
You can count on it.
That’s all I ask.
