It was ‘almost’ edible the day it was made.

Oh, be nice.

Cockroaches will survive the nuclear holocaust by using the indestructible fruitcakes for sustenance.

DANG!

I still have my mom’s recipe and with modern ingredients it is still excellent! I made several last fall and we gobbled them down.

Hint...DO NOT wrap and store the fruitcake in a dark cupboard to “age”. It will make the nuts rancid and it will be hard to choke down.
Wrap in tinfoil and freeze it for a few weeks. Then you can eat on it and it will be great!

It will also put on the pounds.

Yes, a bit of work and not cheap.

The first time I brought some to work, most would not try it until they heard it was rum soaked.

After sampling, some asked for the recipe.
They later brought in some good fruitcake.

I mean, doesn’t this say it all?

Where are Grendel and his mother when I need some muscle over here?

Just soak it in some rum for a couple of weeks and you’ll be good to go.

That was mean.

Should I shelter in place?

Or select a nice edged weapon and extract some payback?

my husband and all of his family love fruitcake and I make it every year, even though I never eat it....

its fun to make, the aroma of all the ingredients plus the ample amount of rum I drizzle on it is wonderful....

We make about a week before Christmas, treating it with rum and refrigerated.

Only with extreme discipline does any last beyond new years day.

Good fruitcake is a true Christmas treat. Cheap fruit cake is truly inedible.

I always joked about fruitcake being a good wheel chuck, etc. until, in my 40’s, I got a taste of a good fruitcake.

It made me a believer. i.e. I agree.

Antarctica is absolutely on my bucket list...not for the fruitcake but, rather,it’s the only continent I’ve yet to visit *and* I’d love to see penguins up close.

Try Collins Bakery out of Texas. Quite good. With that, may I introduce my
New tag line?

Always had Claxton fruitcake for the holidays. Pretty decent. Soaked in rum for extra goodness.

“He said not to bother that Costco has the best fruitcake”

The problem with purchased prepared items is they get cheapened over time. Stouffers lasagna used to be really good, almost as good as Mom’s, a long time ago. I haven’t had it I a while, but it kept getting worse and worse so I stopped buying it.

Bingo on the Claxton fruitcake although I’ve not had any in years.
A little rum sauce and Wow.

I like some fruitcakes, minimal candied fruit, maximum nuts.
