I'd imagine local celebrities like Kid Rock and Eminem live in somewhat different circumstances than a Unix/C programmer would in Detroit. But I'd go check it out if the company wants to fly you in - they might be willing to pay quite a bit above market to get someone good, and the cost of living there could be quite attractive.
