China consumption would be secondary... at least climate-wise, Detroit is friendly to pianos. Not overly dry even in the winter, pianos will last longer. Wood hates dryness. That’s probably why Steinway has a showroom there.
Now if I could be king of Detroit (dream on) I’d ask why the Grinnell Brothers piano works couldn’t have a second life. And have it OEM a completely USA made Steinway work-alike intro model, like the Boston and Essex are today.
