I think it could be a smart idea if it works.

You are in the shower. You hear someone breaking into your house. You grab your gun to defend yourself. You get shot while looking for your watch.

This is a really stupid idea. Just teach kids about gun safety.

Amazing how generations of dads taught their sons to hunt and at the same time gun safety. No problems back in the day. What has changed since then?

Folks who think that way won’t get a weapon like this. But there are plenty of others who would if it worked. I’m in favor of giving gun owners the widest range of choice in the hardware they use.

And besides, the watch idea is just the latest iteration of this technology. At some point someone might come up with a secure weapon that doesn’t use a watch or other counterpart device. I’ve heard about guns with fingerprint readers for example. Obviously those have problems with them as well but this is just the start of these R&D efforts. Which is why I say “if it worked...”
