Two GOP Congressmen have proposed that the U.S. grant Charlie Gard and his family permanent residency status, according to the Daily Caller.
Arizona Rep. Trent Franks and Ohio Rep. Brad Wenstrup proposed the legislation on Friday.
Check it out:
Despite Charlies heartbreaking condition, his parents have refused to give up hope. They have advocated for him fiercely. They have raised over £1 million to pay for their son to receive experimental treatment in the United States. They have kept fighting for his life, Wenstrup and Franks said in a joint statement.
They added, Our bill will support Charlies parents right to choose what is best for their son, by making Charlie a lawful permanent resident in the U.S. in order for him to receive treatments that could save his life.
The 11-month-old has a rare genetic condition that doctors in the UK recently said was a hopeless case.
The Gard family fundraised more than $2M to pay for experimental treatments in the United States, but UK courts ruled in the favor of doctors and went so far as to say it was in Charlies best interest to die.
On Friday, however, Gards doctors requested a fresh trial after new, unpublished experimental data came to light.
Heres more:
According to The Washington Post, New York Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University Irving Medical Center has said it would bring Charlie Gard and prescribe to him with an experimental treatment, pending emergency FDA approval. Additionally, the New York also offered to provide Great Ormond Street Hospital with the treatment medicine if approved.
President Trump and Pope Francis both showed support for the Gard family as well.
The new ruling will occur on Monday.
I agree. I’m all for helping this child and his parents but this is a horrible idea.
Kinda makes ya wonder if there is anything at all that politicians can do right.
Bill of attainder is not defined in the Constitution, Dork. What are you on?
What are they calling this legislation? The adopt every lost puppy dog on earth bill? I feel for these parents but this is a problem.
Very good idea, and with it, DESOCIALIZE healthcare in the U.S. and put it where it belongs - in the free market. Quit acquiescing to unconstitutional socialized medicine which is federal tyranny. Force the issue and, meanwhile, saves lives.
Right on, Diana! And, she WASN'T even dying!!! The State of Florida MURDERED her! I'll NEVER forget! EVER!!
That’s Mr. Dork to you. Never said it was.
I thought that the parents had raised over a million ($/) in private money. So why the heck is the UK stating they can’t leave?
Certain people need to get their thoughts in order.
It would be a law that creates a law for a specific person or specific group of people. It would be little different than Congress passing a law that stated that “Jim 0216 must run naked down the route of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.”
Furthermore, the law is unnecessary as the Gard family can freely enter the United States and walk into any hospital.
So far, you haven’t said anything Mr. Dork.
The Lying Left is beyond fixing. The Right needs to coalesce and take down the 80% unconstitutional portion of the feds which includes their unconstitutional interference with and support for abortion.
That’s just the comment I would expect from the illiterate. That all you have?
Hey, we got a winner!
What is wrong with some of these Freepers? Need some serious remedial education on the Constitution and what it will take to restore America to a Free Constitutional Republic. This helps force the issue and may help save a life.
Mr. Dork's nothing burger with nothing on it.
Quit wasting my time.
You’re confused about a law that opens a door and a law that commands you to go through the door.
GrandPa of 5, is pulling dor Charlie.
“See, this is just the sort of illegal-alien approval that shows Trump doesn’t keep his promises!” — Every liberal in America.
You chose to weigh in. Jim 0216 wasting his own time, apparently. Move along, Jileppo.
... and in some weird way, quite a few confused FReepers.
