Hello darkness, our old friend. The beginning of the Gold Cup for the US sees them facing Panama again.
And in looking ahead to the match-up, which kicks off the Yanks campaign on Saturday at Nissan Stadium (4:30 pm ET | FOX and Univision), nobodys coming in hot or headstrong.
Panamas extremely a tough opponent, especially right out of the gate, said defender Matt Besler, of Sporting Kansas City, on Thursday afternoon, after the US last training session at Nashvilles Lipscomb University. We seem to have played them a lot in recent years, and every single games been different, and theyve all been very tough, physical battles.
For some at US camp, a tough opponent to start is a little like ripping off a bandage, with a positive result steamrolling into some momentum in a tournament that could be winnable. But, yes, even a draw will definitely require laser focus.
Theyre a very familiar opponent
It feels like we see them every couple months, said defender Graham Zusi, also of Sporting Kansas City. Theyre a dangerous team. They play the counter pretty well, and their set pieces are very dangerous as well. This is a game were gonna have to be locked in for a full 90 minutes.

Based on what I saw yesterday, I’m interested to see how the US defence does against the Martinique attackers. I think they could have some problems. You can certainly see the French influence in the way Mart. plays.
And yes, nevertheless, MLS/US SOCCER should be ashamed if this is the case.
Hmm. It takes a really long time to make a post.
Please join me in bumping the FReepathon Thread. :)
Glad I didn't cut our day short at Müggelsee for this game
Believe it or not - the sky soon cleared and was a sunny day. We actually got a bit scorched.
Today turned out to be one of the more interesting days of my life.
I had to go to court to face a charge of online theft. On the train there, suddenly a flash of light and loud crack of thunder startled people. Must have been right on top of the train. For a moment I wondered if the train was hit but I don't think so. Really frightened the people not paying attention around them. I leaned down to one lady and told her it was thunder because she looked terrified. I thought: maybe that's not a good sign for my court case.
I was late and got looks. When the lady judge instructed me to sit, church bells starts tolling from across the street. I wished I was more on time. Again I thought not a great sign.
I had no lawyer because facts are facts. I explained what happened and the judge quickly dismissed the case against me.
End of story.
One the way home I bought a 20 euro frame for my 3 euro poster.
Bump
I mentioned the loud thunder clap on the train, and the tolling church bells when I sat down in front of the judge.
Add to that theme, and I swear on The Holy Bible this is true, the prosecutor looked a lot like the 1950's image of Satan with a goatee (minus the horns). He hardly got to say anything and I gave him a happy nod when I left. He was smiling, I don't know in what context that was about but good for him, be happy.
Finally, when I got on the train to head back, I entered it with a guy carrying a saxophone. I thought: great he is going to want money. He did in fact play part of a tune, which under the circumstances of the other stuff happening made me laugh so I gave him a two euro coin when i walked up and down the train car.
God was messing with me today. LoL!
Um, when he walked up and down the train car.
