THIS added more to my comprehension of our history and our founders than anything I've ever read in my life !
Perhaps even more remarkable than the young ages of these signers is the young age at which many of them began what we today consider adult life. A number of signers entered prestigious colleges such as Harvard between the ages of 13 and 16, including John Hancock, Samuel Adams, William Ellery, Robert Treat Pain, and Elbridge Gerry. Still others, such as George Ross, John Penn, Benjamin Rush, and William Whipple, were already beginning their careers as businessmen, lawyers, and doctors by the time many modern young people are just finishing their undergrad years.

They were mostly well-to-do landowners. They put everything on the line. They all would have been hanged if they lost.
No pajama boys in that crew!
I have no idea how old you are, but I'm 69 and I remember my mid twenties and early thirties and I was no where near the maturity level these guys were.
Well-to-do or not, go back thirty years and what kind of parents had these children ?
See ?
We send our kids off to public school because we're lazy .... period.
I was just stating that the founders had a lot to lose. I’m 57.
You didn't mean to offend me and I didn't mean to offend you and we two had somewhat different directions from which we arrived at the same place.
God BLESS our Republic America.
Bttt
Enjoy your 4th.
Back AT cha', my FRiend.
Those used to be the ages of mature adults.
Now they are pajama boys just barely off their parents’ healthcare.
Do keep in mind that the life expectancy was much lower and therefore the life cycle was more compressed
And knarf, it sounds like you were ahead of your time.
A good summary of all signers, their places of birth, dates, dates of death, ages at death, etc.

Back then you didnt really live as long, and you had to hit the ground young because old age really meant old age!
Stuff we medicate away today likely killed off most of your sisters and brothers, so you didn’t waste time.
On the whole, I’m glad for the longer life-span and healthier existence even if it means people start a little later with life.
Much like the 18 year old boys who stormed normandy beaches in ww2, just look at what government education has given us today, whining bitching snowflakes
Even with an “apparent” compressed life span, the accomplishments of those who came before are sobering and inspiring.
Actually, people have typically lived to be fairly old over the centuries. It has been the high infant mortality rates of the past which cause “average “ lifespan to register as lower. If one made it past age 5 one could expect a pretty lengthy run...
Thank YOU !

A very valid question?
As there were no supermarkets at the time, I would think they spent a great deal of time just providing food and water for their offspring.
Was the above part of the home school curriculum?
As to today’s parents, perhaps it is not so much laziness, as forgetfulness. They have forgotten the price of Freedom and Liberty. We have allowed in the name of education, a group of now powerful and influential, folks to literally take over the job of preparing the next generation to protect our Liberty, without knowing the cost or even having familial contributions to that important job. How many today are veterans of active military service much less service in time of conflict. “Education” has lost it’s way.
