In California it is most likely the state minimum wage law and draconian business regulations that wouldn’t make this franchise profitable - or possible.
Meanwhile, McDonalds and Wendy’s are busy putting in self-ordering kiosks at their locations b/c labor has become so expensive here - Minimum wage is set to rise to $15.00/hour soon.
Self-serve checkouts are now featured in WalMart, Ralphs, Lowe’s, Home Depot and more. Malls are busy closing their doors and all gas stations (at least in my area) are self-service.
You SWJs are getting exactly what you protested for.
