“The Republican scheme relies upon actions by a future Congress.”
Exactly. It’s like one of their sleight-of-hand 10 year budgets where they step on the spending accelerator the first 5 years while promising in the 5 “out” years they are really going to start cutting. The cuts never come because they were never intended to come. The promised cuts were to mollify those who weren’t on to their budget games.
“If they wanted they could repeal ACA with a simple majority. The problem is they dont want to.”
Bingo. They don’t want to.
Regardless how you feel about Beck and Mike Lee, I thought the article he penned summed up a lot of similar concerns that we all have expressed. I think it's appalling that only five senators are against the current BCRA.
The second paragraph really got my attention: "(BCRA) It cuts taxes. It bails out insurance companies. It props up Obamacare through the next election. It lays out plans to slow Medicaid spending beginning in 2025, but that probably wont happen. And it leaves in place the ham-fisted federal regulations that have driven up family health insurance premiums by 140 percent since Obamacare was implemented."
A admit I haven't read the bill, but imho, Mike Lee's observations expose many red flags about the current bill.
Also, I like his opt-out idea for states and individuals. I hope at least that gets passed. If it is in the bill, that would open up the insurance across state lines idea.
"And so, for all my frustrations about the process and my disagreements with the substance of BCRA, I would still be willing to vote for it if it allowed states and/or individuals to opt-out of the Obamacare system free-and-clear to experiment with different forms of insurance, benefits packages, and care provision options."
Looks like someone wasn’t prepared to be in a position to actually be able to do anything.
Whoops.
I have no use for the blaze or mike lee.
And the spinator, his staff and the rest of the congress creeps are EXEMPT from all this crap and cost.
Yeah, that's probably all we can get.
Those three steps are a good starting place.
But we’ve somehow got to remove the lobbyists from this process. Representatives of Big Pharma and Big Health Insurance should not be writing this bill.
The “I’ve got mine” mentality has got to stop.
This wouldn’t pass with fifty votes in the senate. Face it, Obamacare is here to stay.
Totally agree. The reason I liked Lee's article, among other things, is he's showing some Fight! I'm getting so sick of not seeing any fight in the Republicans. Trump shows us some fight, but the others, not so much.
Fight On guys! This is a huge bill. No 'hurry up' before July 4th. No rushed deal. Get rid of the bad parts.
Call your congress critters. Just called mine. What do we have to lose! If we overwhelm the phones, it can't hurt.
As an aside, listening to Levin podcast from Thursday and he just said, "The house bill is 90% Obamacare, the Senate bill is 95% Obamacare. . They've had years to work on this. . all but five senators are embracing this, Obamacare. That's what it is. . this is a monstrosity. . we never move in the direction of free market capitalism, of individual liberty, of competition, of choice. ."
And this: "I'm also told that McConnell showed the draft of the senate bill to the K street lobbyists before he shared it with the rest of the senators."! An absolute disgrace and the epitome of corruption. We have NO representation! Is it time to water the tree of liberty?
Our HMO Insurance Policy in December 2013 was $920 a Month (including separate Dental and Vision Plans).
Our HMO Insurance Policy in January 2017 is $1,980 a Month (including separate Dental and Vision Plans)
I am 13 Months from getting Medicare Coverage.
My Wife is 26 Months from getting Medicare Coverage.
Instead of saving $2,500 a Year as Obama promised, I am paying out $12,000 more a Year.
$2,500 (promised Yearly savings) + $12,000 (current Yearly cost) = $14,500, our true Yearly Obamacare Penalty.
We would love to REPLEAL and REPLACE but thanks to bami, it's a TAX BILL, why do you think the “PREMIUMS” are going up, up and up!!!

He spends a lot of time on the health care bills. Guest Horowitz was great. Sounds like a complete mess and it's basically Obamacare.
Again, my takeaway if we currently have No Representation. We have taxation without representation. Didn't we have that in 1776? We have the house, senate and the presidency and this is the best we can do? Just damn. Where do we go from here?
Yep that’s the Mike Lee, little coward, amnesty, open borders (did you hear that the Mormons are going to open up a church in Cuba now) oh yeah...
Never Trump dimwitted Mike Lee who is in ‘rat’ Romney’s back pocket...
Yep that Mike Lee!!!
And yep that ‘Blaze’ who stood in Iowa and did all that crap to Cruz to make him the NEXT THING TO GOD...yeah that BLAZE and nut job Glenn Beck!!!
I hope that happens, but with people like McConnell and the RINOs, how will Trump get his bill passed? At least Tom Price can do the redoing and modifying, or does he have to check with the lobbyists too?
Exactly. Instead he pees on the fire and curses the darkness.
Amen.
“Im sick of absolutist critics who never offer solutions.”
well, here’s a solution:
“The American Affordable Health Care Act is hereby repealed in it’s entirety”
That’s essentially the same solution the House passed about 76 times when they knew that it wouldn’t pass the Senate or would be vetoed by Obama?
Why won’t they pass it now that it could actually be fully enacted?

EGADS!!! SEVENTY-SIX TIMES????
Agreed, a very sad state of affairs in the House these days!!! Kabuki theater :(
I will never forget the convention.
Mike Lee is a Never Trumper.
Piss be his name.
+1
“Why wont they pass it now that it could actually be fully enacted?”
It was a farce the 76 times they passed it, just like it’s a farce now. It couldn’t be fully enacted, they knew it before and they know it now. Besides that the house already passed health care reform, so the meaningless repeal bill is long gone, the repeal/replace bill is in the senate now.
