Inside a normal house maximum range is about 30 feet. At 30 feet any load will act pretty much like a slug. More so at smaller ranges.

The school shooter at SPU in Seattle from a couple of years ago. Hits a girl full in the chest from about 10 to 15 feet. She walks away. In testimony she said it felt like a big “push” - she didn’t realize what had happened. Then realized her shirt was wet.
Thank God the guy was an idiot and using birdshot.
