What do suggest when the cop then demands to see the ID that is in your back pocket?
“What do suggest when the cop then demands to see the ID that is in your back pocket?”
The sequence is unclear to me. Yes, it has been reported that the cop asked for ID, but was this request before or after, Castile told him he had a gun?
If Castile responded to the request for ID with “I have a gun” - and then starts reaching - that would put me in a defensive posture, and I tell the guy to stop moving.
If the above is true - what do YOU do if Castile doesn’t stop reaching?
Do you know the sequence of events?
If a nice officer pulls me over, I figure the first thing he’s going to ask for is my DL and insurance. By the time he makes it to the vehicle, (and every cop show I’ve watched it’s usually a few minutes of lingering back there) I have my hands in plain sight with my CC permit inhand with my DL. I do not move and I maintain eye contact. I explain I am holding my CC permit and I am armed and I wait for the nice officer to tell me what to do next and I do not move my hands until he does tell me what to do. Which will be, sit there, while he takes my DL/CC, goes back to the safety of his car, checks everything out, and then brings them back with, a have a good day, and here’s a fixit ticket, sorry about that.
The obvious answer is to get a suspect out of the vehicle ASAP.
