Special Counsel spokesman Peter Carr at Justice would not comment when asked to detail the immunity arrangement between Comey and Mueller.
“As this is an ongoing investigation, we will decline to comment,” Carr told True Pundit.
As Special Counsel, by law Mueller is permitted to strike immunity agreements without having to get approval for the Attorney General of anyone at Justice. Also he is not obligated as Special Counsel to inform Justice about who is under immunity.
It’s no secret Comey and Mueller are close friends, having worked together at Justice for years alongside Eric Holder. Comey has described Mueller, who also served as FBI director, as his one-time mentor. If someone in Congress cared enough to do something about it, there are no shortages of conflicts of interests at play here in what is supposed to be an impartial investigation. In fact, it’s somewhat staggering.
But what are friends for? Folks outside of D.C. are getting another unwelcome crash course into corruption.
The anti-Trump establishment is misjudging Trump again, as they did during the election.
What do they think they can do against him, ultimately? He’s not Richard Nixon. Not by a long shot.
I am not surprised if this occurs, but I do think it stinks. Comey should be prosecuted for his leaking, lose his license, go to jail, lose his pension.

If the DOJ claims to have vested Mueller with all the power of a US Attorney and if he is granting immunity as if he has the power of a US Attorney, then why isn’t he required to be approved by the US Senate as the law requires for all US Attorneys?

Bad source here, but the premise makes sense, or why else would Mueller get a heads up by Comey that he was going to be heard on the Hill. Sounds very risky without some deal or assurances.

Um, why would Mueller’s immunity deal stop the DOJ from prosecuting Comey independently? I say charge Comey NOW with a crime and see what Mueller does. If he protests, he has earned his own termination.

If Comey is granted immunity it is because he actually committed a crime.
Apparently Mueller has found the first crime in this investigation and immediately granted immunity to the criminal.
If Mueller grants anyone “immunity” Trump should fire him immediately.
In fact, Trump should fire him anyway. There is no underlying crime other than that which was admitted to by Comey in his sworn testmony.
That would be grounds for doing away with the whole thing.
