When you go from 1947 to today, you realize how little Israel has ever done for us -- not that I would expect them to, but the US does do a lot for them. Israel is the master of playing the field of international diplomacy and coming out on top. Externally, for the masses to see, Israel isn't popular in the UN or Europe, but where it counts -- getting weapons systems and aid and geopolitical favors -- they take just about everyone to the cleaners. Those that they don't -- well, I doubt Israelis lose much sleep over Norway boycotting their products.

I don't begrudge them for it -- they're a small state, an enthostate at that, trying keep their own people secure -- but I also fail to understand why so many Americans have such a devotion to the interests of the modern, socialist-democratic state of Israel, a devotion that is most assuredly not reciprocated.
