They have it wrong, intentionally. “no god but God” is redundant. The true translation is “There is no god but Allah.” Allah is the name of the Muslim “god,” that is in addition to all those other name written on that black rock in Mecca. Wikipedia has become another useless tool on the left.
“God” is pagan. It means invoked, the thing the pagans did with their rituals.
I regret to disagree with you. Grammatically, it is more accurate to say “there is no deity but Allah”, using the small-g “god” as a generic term for a real or invented entity that is worshipped. If I was to say “there is no deity but YHVH, and Jesus is the only begotten Son of YHVH” the construction would be the same.
As a Christian I have a very high regard for discovering and speaking truth, even when a particular truth has no rhetorical advantage— or risks causing offense.
