Morgan went oversea to play for Olympique Lyonnais for precisely this reason.

She is easy on the eyes.
I don’t know. The USMNT is still recovering from the Klinsmann years. I’m not sure the Men’s back line is as tough as the Women’s at this point. Julie Johnson is definitely smarter than anyone on our Men’s backline.
“Im not sure the Mens back line is as tough as the Womens at this point. Julie Johnson is definitely smarter than anyone on our Mens backline.”
Not even 9am and already we have a strong candidate for most ridiculous post of the day.
I was joking of course. But only one part of my post is obviously wrong.
So you think Julie Johnson should be suiting up for the US in the men’s world cup qualifier against T&T coming up?
“Smarter” doesn’t mean “better” or “stronger.” Men are inherently bigger, faster, stronger, etc. Men’s and women’s soccer are in different classes, just as welterweight and heavyweight boxers are in different classes. But can a welterweight boxer be smarter than a heavyweight? Sure.
safesthebanks;
Look up “hyperbole,” please.
But, in all seriousness, there have been times that I have looked at USMNT backline and thought we should just go get any four defenders from a respectable NCAA team and send them out there. There’s the advantage of having worked together all the time. Plus, some of the boneheaded mistakes from our guys are ones that just should not be made at this level. I am sure the coaching staff is frustrated, too.
Sorry, but I think your analogy is off. The difference between the two boxing classes you noted is strictly the size of the competitors. Both boxers are still men, which means the welterweight can actually have some boxing skills (quickness, counter-punching ability, etc) that are actually BETTER than the heavyweight.
Professional women soccer players have NO aspect of their game which is better than a male playing at the same level on the men’s side.
No woman, even one playing at the highest level, has ever played in a game that is anywhere near the level of that seen in a top level men’s game. Therefore, it’s impossible to say a woman player is a smarter player than a certain male player when she’s never played the game at the speed or intensity of the men’s game.
At best, you could maybe say a female player is a smarter player at the womens level than a certain male player is at the mens level. Maybe.
Let me assure you, I know what hyperbole means. Just as I know there are too many people out there, including on this board, who would have answered “yes” to my question. So unfortunately I need to ask the question.
I think you were maybe engaging in some hyperbole again, but, let me just say, as someone who played D1 soccer (back in the day).....no, 4 defenders from an NCAA team would not be better.
Although I think you have a good (non hyperbolic) point that sometime having 4, or even three, very good defenders that play for the same professional team is better for the USMNT than having 4 great defenders that never play together.
Wow what a finish!
Alex Morgan Champions League Winner :)
Too bad for the Polish girl after such a long game defending the goal.
