Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou was seen exiting the White House Thursday after a reported meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The billionaire Taiwanese tech mogul refused to confirm meeting Trump, telling reporters in English: "My memory is not good; maybe I already forgot," according to the Central News Agency.
White House officials did not respond immediately to questions regarding the reported meeting.
Rumors of a possible meet between Gou and Trump surfaced Thursday when the Nikkei Asian Review quoted unnamed sources familiar with the plan. That report also indicated that Gou met with Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner in late February.
The meeting is speculated to have touched on Trump's campaign pledge to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States and on Hon Hai's possible interest in acquiring troubled Japanese tech giant Toshiba's semiconductor business.
In January, Gou said he was considering joint investment projects worth US$7 billion with other companies to set up manufacturing plants in the U.S. as long as cheap land and supportive infrastructure could be secured.
Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn, is a Taiwan-based electronics component giant central to the assembly of tech products including Apple's iPhones and iPads.
'best response to the press' award of the week!
“Best Response” was my thought also. I hate the press and anytime I see them coming around where we work, I absent myself.
I have to confess that I am TOTALLY discriminatory where the press is concerned.
Will all this winning ever stop ? I am already nostalgic about the days when we used to lose.
