Black students at Columbia University protested a campus statue of Thomas Jefferson last week by covering the statue, which stands in front of the journalism building, with a Ku Klux Klan hood and posing with signs disparaging Columbia University for celebrating the legacy of a man they regard as a white supremacist, hypocrite, rapist and a symbol of violence against Black and brown bodies and their consciousness.
The group protesting, Mobilized African Diaspora (MAD), compiled a statement of complaints on its web site condemning the 103-year-old statue of a Founding Father and principal author of the Declaraton of Independence, Thomas Jefferson himself, Columbia University and white people in general.

That was mean.
LOL!
Well, at least my old mind remembered it was a Jefferson. Yeah, the outraged snowflakes had it moved. It’s now in the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History... facing west.

The comments against the author are stinging.
There is no actual proof that Jefferson had a romantic liaison with Sally Hemings. Scholarly studies have shown that her descendents share DNA characteristics with relatives of Thomas Jefferson, a cousin IIRC.
That’s interesting.
Clicked on Bogus Times just because.
Records of visitors to Monticello, do not support Jefferson’s nephew as the father of Sally Hemings children. However Thomas Jefferson was present at Monticello at around the time that Sally Hemings would have became pregnant with her children.
How much is tuition at CU? Hell, the KKK were post Civil War.
I like Jefferson, too, he was one of the greatest thinkers of American history. I am just pointing out that his lofty ideals sometimes failed when it came time for him to be impacted by them. Jefferson wrote on several occasions about how slavery needed to be abolished, yet couldn’t bring himself to not practice it. Washington was not so conflicted. They were both men of their times, carrying on a practice that the British started. It does not, to me, detract from their character or greatness that they had slaves. Everyone in their era was deferring a resolution.
Further proof that not STEM now implies not educated.
There are conflicting findings ( from DNA to where Jefferson was [ for several of her children, he wasn't even on the same continent that she was ] when she fell preggers, each time ) and it's Hemings black descendants who pushed for it to be true.
His two nephews and a cousin was a maybe...IIRC.
“Columbia University Students Cast Thomas Jefferson in KKK Hood”
I never saw this coming.
Next to go: Abraham Lincoln. Same reasoning.
You are correct. Yet it is apparent even so-called conservatives have been brainwashed by the Hollywood liberal fiction.
The Jefferson DNA in the Hemmings family descendants could have come from generations either preceding or after Thomas Jefferson's generation. Thomas Jefferson denied the allegations. Are you calling him a liar?
Heavens no, we all know politicians would never lie about any sexual liaisons they may have been engaged in. But the very detailed records of visitors to Monticello do not support the contentions of either Jefferson’s brother or his nephews were Monticello around the time Sally Heming would have conceived a child. Those same records also indicate that Thomas Jefferson was there around the time she became pregnant. Again, in the records kept at Monticello, the birth of each Heming’s child are duly recorded, but she is the only slave, to give birth at Monticello, in which the name of the father is not recorded. Of the ten slaves Jefferson gave freedom to eight are Heming’s children or blood related to her. None of this is proof that Thomas Jefferson was the father of any Heming child, but it does point to a very strong relationship between the two, that did not normally exist between a slave owner and a slave.
That is not what the records kept at Monticello say. Are you saying that Jefferson falsified the records he kept.
