Why on earth do parents name their kids stupid names like “Cyndicy?” Don’t they know that such names often go straight to the bottom of the resume stack.

The robots do not come to work with a hangover, the robots do not come with the cost of Obamacare and the robots do not join the union.

--------- and do not know when firing a nail gun into a knot.

I’m with you on that. There is no “labor shortage”. There is only a shortage of labor at the prices that they want to pay.

If there’s ever a labor shortage, just cut out welfare. Plenty of people, there. Of course, the rules and laws on corporal punishment on the job site might need to be loosened up a bit for awhile.

There will come a time when mechanization will destroy mankind. We are not far off from it. People will have no source of income to purchase food, pay for housing, utilities or medical care, let alone a car, house or children. What will 10 Billion people do in the year 2030? Surf porn, play video games and vote for those who force farmers to feed us?

I glanced at some report on the use of robots - it talked I think about somehow setting aside money from the robot’s increased productivity and distributing it to the displaced workers.

I could maybe see how that might be manageable on a company by company basis when existing workers are let go (never mind the ethics of a company paying now unneccesary workers). Not sure how one would go about compensating workers that might have been hired but never were.

But - fast forward 500 years. IF most everything is manufactured and serviced by robots - I think there will have to be some sort of system to provide for the people that don’t have jobs, and don’t have to work.

10,000 years ago everyone had to work. 3,000 years ago civilization allowed some people to become artists and craftsmen - a luxury provided by improvements.

So perhaps there is a way for people to naturally adapt. But I’m guessing it will be more of a forced government system that will be used, and screw things up.

And in 600 hundred years when the robots figure out that they are supporting all the free-loading humans....

Heh - seeing as they were programed by humans - they probably will just dutifully do what they are told to avoid the consequences.

I just realized that as I turn back to finishing up my taxes to support all the free-loading humans. (Especially democrat congressmen!).

The USA does not have a labor shortage we have a welfare recipient surplus. Of course it they would scream to the heavens but we could take thousand of idle inter city thugs and ship them to areas where there is work. Teach how to nail shingles and pour concrete. It would be a win win for the USA

Except AI is on the horizon, and the scientists never watched the Sci-Fi movies of the recent past about how the machines figure out they only need a few humans for maintenance.
