Young people have to be on Medicaid because of the mandate. Otherwise, they are given a fine - you know that. Most young people don’t really need health coverage and many of them are under or unemployed and don’t receive it through work - hence, Medicaid.
When I was out of work as a kid, I paid out of pocket. Ordinary doctor visits were cheap.
Let’s blame Obama, not the kids.

It’s not that we’re lazy, we’re tired. Tired of over-regulation and government picking our pockets.

What is this clown smoking?
Liberalism. He's got his pipe stuffed full of it and he's puffing away.
Even technology, the one area that has seen some innovation in recent years, has been mostly aimed at making us want to stay home and relax.
Seriously? "mostly aimed at making us want to stay home and relax."???
This guy has no idea of the impact technology has had on business processes. Good thing he's a professor 'cuz he wouldn't last a week out in the real business world.

I’d love to start my own business. In fact I already have, but going full-time means buying my own insurance at about $1500 per month for a family of five plus self employment taxes. Basically I’d need 150% of my salary to stay even. I’m still dreaming of doing it, but the best thing for me financially is to keep a salary and benefits and work on my business at night.
Maybe once I have enough product available and the cash saved up I’ll make the leap.

And they live in neighborhoods that are about as segregated as they were in the 1960s. And it's going to stay that way for me.
I refuse to live in a crime ridden, third world hell hole kind of neighborhood just for the sake of diversity.

Cowen believes we've gone too far in trying to create perfect, insulated lives for ourselves and our kids....Couldn't agree with him more.

“Welfare and other benefits such as Medicaid for healthy young people have made it more lucrative and a wage any startup can afford to pay. You are so right.”
A guy I work with has two children by the woman he lives with. They won’t get married because she gets welfare for the children and the taxpayer paid for birthing them. They think this is OK.

Okay, blame Obama. I’m good with that. But I can’t get past the notion of personal pride and work ethic.

That's one of the ways people get ahead these days. That family has a lot higher disposable income than one that is legally married. I'm not saying it's right or wrong (yeah, I know it's wrong), but if you tax it you'll get less of it. If you subsidize it you'll get more of it. It's common sense and everyone knew it back in the '60s when the Great Society programs started - but we did it anyway.
And we all know why. Until we repeal the 19th Amendment we will be legislating with our hearts first and our brains second (if at all.) Of course we aren't going to take the vote away from women so eventually in some X number of generations we will all be wards of the nanny state. Safe and sound and sucking on that government teat.

Yep...I agree....I think kids should be able to fast forward thru their secondary education, completing it at , oh, 14, 15, 16...and then “get a life” (work) or go on to further education. And they should NOT be eligible for Govt bennies of any kind till past 21, and then only if incapacitated.

This is all the fault of the government. If you try to earn your own way they tax the life out of you. If you sit on you ass they will give you everything.
From the US government to local municipalities they are all eager to tax one to death directly or ever increasing fees and regulations

Multicultural societies results in social isolation.
Welfare is too easy, too.
Wait ‘til they see what happens when whites are the minority in this country’s business world due to retirement and racial discrimination.
