President Trump hinted at the possibility of a very dramatic deal with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to Mar-A-Lago next week in an interview with the Financial Times that ran Sunday afternoon.
I have great respect for him. I have great respect for China. I would not be at all surprised if we did something that would be very dramatic and good for both countries and I hope so, Trump told FT.
Trump warned in the same interview that the U.S. is willing to unilaterally address the North Korean nuclear threat, if China isnt willing to help.
China has great influence over North Korea. China will either decide to help us with North Korea, or they wont, Trump said. If China is not going to solve North Korea, we will.(continued)

I assume he means bomb their nukes/missile sites?
Shouldn’t raise expectations but sounds like the deal has been done.
It does indeed. Let’s see.
Music to my ears...Finally, a pair of brass ones in the WH!
(And of course the mindless drone cheerleaders will say that it doesn't matter, followed by insulting me... neither of which actually addresses the issue, of course...)
It doesn't sound that way to me. This just sounds like he's being optimistic that we'll be able to work with them on things down the line. I wouldn't read too much into it just yet.
I'm not at all worried about Our President doing what he said he was going to do: Work for the American People and Make America Great Again!!!
“Making pronouncements like this is extremely poor diplomacy.”
Maybe making pronouncements like this is part of driving the deal.
Lol @ preemptively excusing yourself. Perhaps the issue is you. Probably. So tired of the I hate President Trump but I don’t hate President Trump phonys.
Because old fashioned establishment “diplomacy” has worked so effectively at stopping the Norks, right?
It’s time to realize that many of these little tin horn dictators only respect strength, instead of “actual diplomacy” as you call it. The days of POTUS bowing and kissing ass to aestheticically please others sense of style are over. Thank God.
We didn’t elect Jeb.
Deal with it.
Velvet fist in an iron glove doesn’t really work.
I agree, but we are talking about a president who insists on keeping and using his own cell phone while in office, vs a fully secured phone. Like many powerful people, I think Donald has been so used to disregarding other’s advice for so long, (suffering little if any real consequence other than bad press) that it is difficult to convince him why he should not do as he pleases.
Maybe after he sees a direct effect one of his blurted statements has had on producing a tragic event, one both devastating and deliberate, he will voluntarily tone it down and keep it (mostly) that way.
We were on the verge of winning the Korean War until the Chinese intervened. My Dad fought in Korea, and would tell stories of wave after wave of Chinese soldiers who just kept coming. They were very stoic and stone-faced. Their men was dying right next to them and they just kept marching ahead like nothing, didn't change facial expressions or nothing.
I would be surprised if a major deal is reached so early in the Trump administration, but there could be some agreements coming out of this summit.
It depends. If a deal has already been worked out by the staffers of both countries, then Trump hinting that this is an important summit meeting will garner more public attention. In another words, if Trump already knows the result, then there is no problem in increasing expectations.
If there is no deal, then it could be a problem. But I suggest we withhold judgment before getting our panties in a wad. I doubt you were a Trump supporter during the primary.
We can deliver ordnance to any spot on the globe with almost no notice and no way to defend against it.
We choose not to for diplomatic reasons, and to keep our best cards for use when absolutely required. NK is not that level of threat.
Your metaphor is in perfect sync with what lots of factions want to believe: that we are a paper tiger. Let them.
You really don’t believe that you’re aware of all available delivery systems, do you?
>Trump’s mouth is by far his biggest problem. Making pronouncements like this is extremely poor diplomacy.
#Nevertrumpers like you should be purged from the right.
That being said, Trump’s always talked this way, it’s part of his deal making process. Doesn’t always work but often it does.
But I’m sure after all your predictions about Trump losing and how supporting Trump would destroy us all turned out wrong, that you right about Trump this time. I’m mean you can’t be wrong about him forever, right?
The president previously said he expects the meeting with Xi will be a very difficult one.
