Rep. Ted Poe., R-Texas, resigned from the House Freedom Caucus (HFC) after they moved the goalpost during healthcare negotiations with President Trump. As Peoples Pundit Daily previously reported, the ObamaCare repeal bill was amended 11 times in an effort to appease the various conservative and moderate factions in the House GOP.
I have resigned from the House Freedom Caucus, Rep. Poe, a founding member of the caucus said in a statement. In order to deliver on the conservative agenda we have promised the American people for eight years, we must come together to find solutions to move this country forward. Saying no is easy, leading is hard, but that is what we were elected to do. Leaving this caucus will allow me to be a more effective Member of Congress and advocate for the people of Texas. It is time to lead.
In an appearance on Fox and Friends Monday morning, the Texas congressman said he spoke with HFC chair Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., who asked him to stay. But he explained how the caucus changed their demands after the president negotiated with House leadership to get their provisions into the bill and felt that the caucus was basically negotiating in bad faith.
They were always going to be a No, he said.
He made a similiar comment over the weekend.
Some only want to be the party of no & wouldve voted against the 10 commandments, Rep. Poe tweeted.
The HFC voted for full repeal in 2016. Apparently the HFC still wants full repeal now. Ryan an the others have flipped. I don't trust any politician. But in this battle, I know which side is right.
” covers pre-existing conditions for a period of around 2 years,”
Just curious, but how would that work...does it cover treatment for 2 years or does it say you can’t have had the condition for more than 2 years???
What’s the point...sounds like a plan designed to meet a specific dollar cost number rather than health policy.
The full repeal bill was not filibustered by the Dems in the senate because they knew Obama would not sign it. That same bill would be filibustered today
The Jan. 2016 bill that they passed was a full repeal, and nothing more.
I tell ya what I think, I think Ryan is lieing thru his teeth.
IMHO The ONLY reason the bill was pulled was because Ryan couldn’t even get the votes of the RINOs. Sure the FC opposed it, but the majority of the push back was from RINOs.
Think about that for a moment. They are out in full force smearing the Freedom Caucus, yet there are other stories suggesting otherwise.
What better way to expose the Freedom Caucus than a Recorded vote? But that didn’t happen did it? If this would have hurt the FC, Ryan would have called for it.
It’s a hell of a lot more logical than Ryan blaming the FC AFTER he pulls the bill from a Recorded vote to cover the RINOS from public exposure.
Dear Ted Poe,
You, Ryan and 238 others voted for a full repeal of ACA without any replacement i January of 2016. It is you and the other swamp critters who have now MOVED THE GOALPOSTS.
And now you project your own flip-flop on the HFC. Look in the mirror to see where the problem is.
Change the rules.
The filibuster is the only reason we aren’t in single payer now or have a second amendment or why the 2007 amnesty is not the law of the land. Do you really want that to go away?
“If that is the case, then I am disappointed in them...”
If it were actually true that the HFC, going into negotiations, had such insignificant criteria to buy their souls, then I’m more disappointed in them for the weak criteria than I am for them using 3d chess moves against the master to kill an awful bill which was supported by the establishment but not the people.
The Democrats already went there with Obama's federal judge appointments. We have Obama judges everywhere(except the SC) because of it.
Judges yes, not legislation
“I don’t trust any politician. But in this battle, I know which side is right.”
Thank God there are some Freedom-driven folks left on FreeRepublic who have the proper perspective on politicians.
The day when HFC, Heritage, etc are bad things...
And Republican supported 3-part fantasies which involve a secret, hurried (because poison spoils quickly) phase 1 falsely marketed as somehow the only possible option and including fed mandates, subsidies and more are good things...
...is the day I quit taking that pill the party keeps sending me.

Exactly...No one seems to know what either side proposed...Be nice if they'd make some of these proposals public...Would likely save a lot of division on FR and the rest of the country... ----------------------------------------------------------
It was like we had to pass it, like ACA, to find out what was in it. The 30% surcharge for those who let their coverage lapse seemed kind of self defeating.
I don't understand the take it or leave mentality when it comes to these types of bills and why the rush to pass them before the people can read and study them.
Above in the thread there was some doubt. Here is a paste of excerpts taken from the house.gov site from what was voted on Jan 2016, that had just passed Senate Dec 2015. Don’t know how to highlight here, scroll to the Washington Examiner excerpt, that makes it clear the bills were NEVER TOTAL REPEAL, they were doing Reconciliation reqd defunding, not extraction of all text.
The bill undoing the president’s prized overhaul will be the first order of business when the House reconvenes this coming week Republicans never before have succeeded in sending a full repeal bill to the White House. (Associated Press)
The top 2016 goal of both Ryan and McConnell is to return Congress to regular order the step-by-step process of passing bills through the congressional committees and then each chamber. First up, the House is set to vote Wednesday to repeal Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood, sending the measure to Obama’s desk (Los Angeles Times)
Republicans in Congress are touting a bid to make President Obama veto a bill that guts the Affordable Care Act and stops federal funding from going to Planned Parenthood. Rep. Vicky Hartzler, R-Mo., highlighted the bill in the GOP’s weekly address Saturday. Hartzler argued the bill, which defunds parts of the healthcare law and ends requirements that individuals and businesses buy health insurance would be a significant improvement to our health care system. (Washington Examiner)
The House of Representatives will vote in a matter of days to confirm the changes the Senate made to the reconciliation bill that would de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business, which was caught selling the body parts of aborted babies. (LifeNews.com)
I hope, instead, that they come back with something that removes more than just 2 of the 12 mandates in Obamacare, and that defunds Planned Parenthood forever, not just for one year. It would also be nice if they did something that didn't require we wait years to see if others can pass a true repeal of socialized medicine.
Some people don't mind crap sandwiches as long as they can get a tiny bit more bread and a minute amount less of crap. I want what was promised during the campaign, not feel good idiocy that does nothing but allow us to meekly claim some fraudulent victory. After 8 years of Obama, one would think you guys were tired of all the crap you've been force fed. But no, you're saying thank you sir, may I have some more?
Republicans need to learn how to wield power. Wasn't Trump supposed to show them how it's done?
The impression I had is that it would mandate that insurance cover pre-existing conditions for new enrollees for the next 2 years after enactment. After that, new enrollees would be SOL.
Rep. Ted Poe is a ******G LIAR!>
If the original legislation, sent to and vetoed by Obungo in 2015 had been submitted, it should have passed.
The abortion Ryan (who should be fired) concocted was a bad version of Obamacare Light. An enhanced and worse version of Obamacare.
No
it
was
NOT!
Good news : Rush went through the entire list of what was deleted.
And what abominations were added. There were more than a few in each category
The bad news : I was not able to record the audio to transcribe for sharing.
No.
The point is that the preexisting condition thing is a red herring.
THE FREAKING POINT IS IT'S NOT INSURANCE, DAMMIT!!!
Every tom dick and harry is drumming for HIS piece of the scam.
I am not arguing that it might not be a good idea, but don't call it insurance.
Call it what it is ANOTHER HUGE WELFARE BOONDOGGLE WITH NO CHECKS, BALANCES OR BULLETPROOF SAFEGUARDS TO PREVENT ABUSE AND CODDLING OF THE INDOLENT PRETENDING TO BE HELPLESS.
Nobody can do that in 30, 60, 90 or 300 days.
Yet Trump and his advisors are scrambling for speed, forced by the gangs that created the mess to JOIN THEM down THEIR journey over the cliff. Nothing would fix their panic better than Trump offering to share the blame.
WTF?
If ever there was a time for deliberate action this is it.
Don't let schumer and the other assholes push you into "fixing" a disaster that they have been 8 years in creating, and it has only gotten worse, with no end in sight.
STAY THE COURSE, DAMMIT!!
Let's remind the criminals that the original "affordable Health Act" was never finished.
It was acknowledged that 80% of the computer work necessary for Obamacre to work was never done.
How could it possibly work?
ELIMINATE AND REPLACE!
NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES TO DO IT RIGHT.
