While I can understand the “no man left behind” reasoning and agree that a thousand Palis aren’t worth even one Israeli’s fingernail, this was a case where they shouldn’t have even negotiated with terrorists.
As heartbreaking and difficult as it would have been, Israel should have said the hostage was a prisoner of war and killed any & all responsible for his taking or death.
